For the past decade, Schuylkill County Recorder of Deeds A. Matthew Dudish and his employees have spent much of their time scanning documents and imaging records dating back to 1811.

By next year, two centuries worth of deeds, maps and other information will be available online to the general public.

“This is going to be state of the art,” Dudish said in an interview last week. “It took 10 years of building. We’d had our people in here on Saturdays, Sundays, just scanning away.”

Dudish said he hopes to have a website – a one-stop shop for all county deeds – up and running by sometime next year. That site will allow anyone, commercial users or the general public, to search any record on file at the Schuylkill County courthouse. There will be a fee to access some documents, as well as per-page charges for printing deeds, mortgages or other information.

Dudish said he and his staff are still hammering out how much those fees will be, but it will likely be in the neighborhood of 50 cents or $1 per page.
