It took an American to present the first talks about autism. It was psychiatrist Leo Kanner back in 1943 who described the disorder aside from the schizophrenia that it was once thought to be. He said then that the condition was something different altogether, and it has been accepted as such since the 60s. Symptoms of autism may just happen to occur all at once, or in various combinations. Since there are instances when the condition may not be total, you might need to understand that its severity in your child could be particular. And of course, being in uncharted territory, you ought right away to bring in the professionals that know how best such kids should be handled. Evidence suggests that autism patients are usually actually quite intelligent, but this is not easy to tell considering that whatever they were trying to tell you, you couldnt understand in the first instance. So you could wonder about all that intelligence locked up inside such a brilliant mind, and yet being unable to get out. How frustrating. Hopefully time will eventually help us bring such intelligence out. An autism spectrum disorder is not autism in itself, just a condition that shares a few of the common symptoms of the syndrome. People who suffer these are actually believed to far outnumber those that do not, and the United States is believed to have them in frightening numbers.
